About Pasties & Pints

Cornwall has no shortage of places described as “stunning”. That is not much help when you are trying to work out where to park, what something will cost, whether the food is any good or if a place is actually worth half a day of your trip.

I’m one Cornish bloke trying to give you a more useful answer.

Pasties & Pints covers Cornwall through first-hand visits where available, verified practical facts, honest recommendations and local judgement. I explore towns, villages, beaches, walks, pubs, food, attractions and days out—then explain what actually matters, what I would do and what could improve or spoil your experience.

The aim is to help visitors make better choices, represent Cornwall credibly for the people who live here and tell stories worth following even if you have no trip planned.

This is not a tourism-board brochure or a directory full of places copied from everybody else’s directory. It is Cornwall from my point of view: useful, honest and occasionally willing to say when something is too expensive, overrated or simply not worth the bother.

How recommendations work

Pasties & Pints publishes focused recommendation guides covering selected parts of Cornwall.

Places are assessed using consistent evidence and editorial judgement. The internal scoring stays behind the scenes because the public answer should remain useful and human:

Would I recommend it, who would I recommend it to and how strongly?

These are not copied round-ups, vague “best of” lists or paid placements. A place is added after it has been properly researched and assessed, with first-hand experience used wherever the recommendation depends on it.

That means some guides will be incomplete—and that is deliberate. I would rather publish a shorter list I can support than fill a page with businesses I have never properly looked at.

If somewhere is missing, it has not necessarily been rejected. It may simply be waiting to be assessed.

Recommendations can also change. Businesses improve, standards slip, prices move and Cornwall rarely stays still for long. When worthwhile new evidence is available, the guide should reflect it.

Independent by design

Pasties & Pints supports good Cornish businesses, producers, pubs, attractions, events and people doing worthwhile things for Cornwall.

It may also work with businesses through partnerships, sponsorships, complimentary visits or other commercial arrangements. Any relevant support will be disclosed.

What cannot be bought is the verdict.

Payment will never guarantee inclusion, praise, a stronger recommendation or a better position in a guide. A business may support useful work, but it cannot quietly buy the answer.

What Pasties & Pints is building

The goal is to build the most useful and entertaining independent guide to Cornwall—one that helps people understand what a place is actually like, whether it deserves their time and money and how to get the best from it.

Coverage will grow across Cornish food and drink, pubs, pasties, fish and chips, walks, beaches, towns, villages, attractions and days out.

The guide will grow carefully rather than pretending to know everything from the start. Authority has to be earned through accurate facts, sound judgement and consistently useful work. Announcing yourself as an expert is the easy bit. Proving it is rather more useful.
